No Peace for the Saintly?

I passed a decent night with a short interruption at the usual wake up time. And then I drifted off back to sleep until the alarm shocked me with a bump. It was after 07.00.

Oof! I needed to go swimming because I would not be able to on Wednesday or Thursday. So I moved quickly, booked my slot and was in the car trying to defrost it gently, mindful of that screen crack.

It was just about daylight as I set off. Still half asleep. The sky became a beautiful baby eggshell blue colour dotted with fluffy pink clouds. Really very pretty. The fields were overlaid with varying blankets of mist. A lovely drive.

The pool varied in its population from familiar sluggish swimmers to very sluggish swimmers. But I got on with it. Over 800m and then some watery exercises.

And off home again. Once I was properly dressed, H and I grabbed our walk at Cholsey. She dashed around and played little games with me and we were soon back home.

After about 40 mins, it was time to set off out again to meet my carer friends at Hilliers in Hermitage. There we enjoyed a very pleasant lunch and a very long chat. I resisted the temptations of clothing, shoes, garden plants and tools and settled on some olives and some eggs and a pack of dates for Ali and co. She had been raving about dates and these were big fat medjool ones.

I returned home and by now it was late in the afternoon. So I stuck a nightie on and half- heartedly prepped some veg for super. And sat down to enjoy it. My first bit of peace to savour.

But then… DCI rang because he and Fleur were passing and thought they might pop in to say hello, and, more importantly borrow our Miele vacuum cleaner. Their Dyson has gone to be renovated/ repaired/ reconstructed etc.

Now a visit was handy because the front door was still living a life of its own. I had not been able to lock it when I went out earlier. And ….hey presto… about 20 seconds after the arrival of my visitors, its naughty secret was revealed. A screw was loose but in the jamb not in the door. Which was where I looked yesterday, Doh! Problem solved.

The rest of the evening was mostly involved with Silent Witness. T would have enjoyed it – not for the dismemberment of a female barrister – but because it shone a light on the tough start to their career that criminal barristers get. And the poor pay.

Thought for the Day
