Amazingly, I had quite a good night’s sleep. I thought I would be awake worrying about the windscreen. I woke just before 05.00 but had slept well with limited interruption.
It was a drizzly, damp and generally, unpleasant, day. The dogs had both been quiet and calm.
I had telephone calls to make: to check insurance covered windscreen replacement; to check Autoglass worked with Saga insurers; to cancel the MOT booked with Honda, but also to make sure they were happy to collect and service the car.
The crack –

I was not best pleased to discover Autoglass had to postpone my appointment on 24/1 in order to obtain the parts. They could not give me a new date. Would they be coming from Japan, I wondered. They had a week in which to obtain them. In the meantime, I discovered that Saga had their own windscreen repair agents, who would carry out the repairs at my house. Autoglass were the other side of Reading. So I cancelled Autoglass and booked FGMGlass, the insurer’ agents to come and replace the windscreen. It also would cost me £75 as opposed to the £140 that Autoglass wanted. And … they have booked me in for next Thursday 23/1. Hopefully they will have the parts they need.
My car insurance is due for renewal in three weeks so I adjusted that at the same time. But it is still eye-wateringly expensive these days. But the windscreen does not require me to pay excess or lose any of my no claims points.
This seemed to take all morning – from 9.00 until after 11.00.
And I finally got out with the dogs for a quick spin round Cholsey. Minnie, like yesterday, thundered her way through the ponds. H was more delicate. The pictures are from yesterday when it was sunny.

I dropped the dogs at home and then visited Waitrose for various supplies. Waitrose, it had to be, because I wanted lentils and beans and I could not be sure Lidl or Tesco would have them. It would have been good if I had actually remembered to buy the beans and lentils, but I forgot them. So no Dahl tomorrow.
I had pea soup for lunch and cod and salad for supper. And I’m still awake… no snoozing today. Yesterday I felt really tired but more alert today.
However, although I was awake for the start of Traitors, I failed to make it to the end, although I did catch up later. Idiots!
It is now Friday morning.
Alex is coming for a late slumming lunch. Something bean based. So the beans are in the Instant-pot steaming away I hope, in a flavoured stock. I will rescue them later and add fresh vegetables and different flavoring to the beans and bake further for lunch. But first I will extract some for salad purposes later.
DCI will be back from the States later today.
Honda will pick up the car between 08.00 and 11.00.
And I have found an interesting apple desert cake recipe which contains no sugar and only 50 g of melted butter and only 90g of flour, and eggs and apples and raisins, which I don’t have . Might have to substitute them with a banana or prunes or something else.
Thought for the Day
