I passed a very difficult night with only a few minutes of sleep. Despite me being awake all yesterday. Hmm. I did catch up a bit as morning dawned.
We were promised a dump of snow around 08.00, which never materialised. However it was very chilly, but also, sunny.
I needed to get myself going so I could get H out and about before leaving for Aldermaston to meet Brenda for lunch at midday.
I chose Cholsey again, for expediency. There, men were busy hacking down the vegetation in one of the temporary ponds. The stems had previously exhibited wonderful colours, so it was a shame to see them brought down. But I have no doubt that the clearance was needed.

As I drove towards Pangbourne, the river Pang had filled the fields and woodland adjacent to the road. Swampy!
It was nice to be back at the Butt Inn again. It was just as well that I had booked because a member of staff was turning away an elderly trio. Why? I have no idea because they were far from busy. Not enough staff for walk ins perhaps?
Also, their website and outside boarding could do with an update, because, despite claiming they are open all day, they certainly are not. But I had experienced a 3.00pm departure previously. And we had a similar one today.
I knew I needed to go to the wonderful Goring Hardware shop for something but could not remember what it was. So I did not go. Well, now, I have remembered what I needed – a toolbox to help me transport all my tools for my drawing series of workshops which start tomorrow. I have yet to get all my tools and materials together. But it means an early start and a lonely morning for little H.
I caught up on some sleep this evening which I hope will not be responsible for a difficult night to come. It is very cold outside but my little home is warm and cosy.
Thought for the Day

Do I miss our open fires ?
Yes! I miss the colours and the smells and the direct heat.
No! I don’t miss the mess or the lighting of them. Or storing the logs or coal and the bringing if it inside. Not the chimneys that need sweeping.
