Quiet

Passed the usual sort of night with the usual silly wake up time. Decaf brewing, I invited H outside but she did not fancy it . I left the door open for her, but unbeknownst to me, she slid inside and I was hunting around for her, thinking she was outside somewhere. Only to find her hiding in the sitting room.

This should tell you that the day was not an attractive one. There were unpleasant noises assaulting my ears from outside. It was very windy, and damp, but not actually raining, yet. That was saving itself for later.

I did not rush to prepare ourselves for our walk. I performed a few half-hearted chores, and contemplated more.

And sat down for a bit, but then I became aware that things were changing outside, and not for the better. Rain was tipping down. It was getting close to midday, which was when the forecast hinted that rain might stop. I eventually gave up on the waiting.

H and I were not outside for long, maybe about half an hour. I rescued my Dryrobe which is just the garment for such conditions. Wet and cold cannot penetrate the Dryrobe. I bundled us into the car, and we did a quick twirl using the gravel paths at Cholsey. I did not trouble myself with grassy tracks. It looked too slippery and muddy to be worth any risk.
Strangely, I only saw one other dog walker. The only person I saw at all. And H seemed to lack any enthusiasm after an initial burst of the stuff. Maybe something to do with the fact she was quite wet. She kindly gave me a shower as she tried to shake it off.

There is a heap of cast-aside Christmas trees at Cholsey – about half a dozen. That was yesterday when I first saw them. I presume it’s a collection point and these trees have been dumped by the people who don’t like to think of Christmas the day after it’s over.
But the sad thing was, that these were once beautiful, living, (very expensive) trees, only to be cut down and discarded. Prematurely. I’m so thankful that I have given up on the real thing.
We always used to buy rooted ones anyway. Ones we took over to France and planted round the field. Some were quite big by the time we sold up.

When I arrived home, I found a very wet neighbour, Andrew, was dismantling their external Christmas display. I always miss it when it has gone. My less flamboyant tree and two external illuminations will be dismantled in a couple of days.

I ate a bowl of fruit and sat down to watch today’s film offering – Lawrence of Arabia. Hours of it. All that sand was very smooth. And there were lots of camels and heat. And then I dozed.

I had planned on a curry take away this evening but I was not hungry enough to be bothered to 1. Go and get it. 2. Order it, so I made do with an egg sandwich.

I became quite excited when I saw Traitors started for a new series tonight, presented by the delightful Fringe along with Claudia.

Only trouble, I thought it started at 21.00. It didn’t, I was an hour too late, so had to stream it. Hmm… no spoilers but one competitor is already annoying me.

Thought for the Day
