Another reasonable night at Trefeddian Hotel, but tonight, I will be very glad to be tucked up in my own bed with my own pillow.
I took little H out for her early wee and, whilst I was about it, I took two bags down to the car. H’s personal bag and a bag full of dirty washing.
Trouble was I forgot the car key which would have been quite useful and would have saved me a second trip with the car key.
I then went straight to brekkie where I said good bye to the lovely waiting staff.
And back upstairs, where I gathered up the remaining bag and my doggy, paid the bill. And we were off!
The day was another stormy one … full on wind and intermittent rain. We headed for Aberdovey so H could have a run before the long journey home. We set off for our stroll but then the heavens opened and I had to retrieve a raincoat from the car.
We then set off for Machynlleth and the rain was so heavy that I was seriously considering going no further. There was the usual flooding associated with heavy rain, and as for the skies – well the clouds hung heavy and dark.
But I persevered, heading towards Newtown. Pen was on the phone and sent me this screenshot.

This was quite helpful because it shows the heavy rain under which I was stuck. It also shows that once I was through it better weather would follow.
I suspected the Satnav was being devious re the route I had chosen. I didn’t seem to be heading towards Ludlow. I was right I was not. The Satnav was insisting on taking me to Shrewsbury and then Birmingham, which it had indicated was the quickest route. By all of 10 minutes. . Welsh pool was on the way and was completely surrounded by water – all the farmland was drowning. But the roads were fine.
(Later there was a lot more flooding in NorthOxfordshire and around Oxford itself. Someone told me Didcot was also suffering)
And we drove into clearer skies . But round every bit of motorway that was anywhere near Birmingham. I made good progress, catching up with the M40 and thence home.
I found the house cold – no heating and no hot water – probably thanks to the power cut yesterday. This was annoying. I pressed a reset button on the boiler and the heating and hot water are now operating but I don’t think the underfloor is working. Oh yes it is! All toasty now!
It took me a while to sort out and unpack my bags. Andrew from next door appeared on the doorstep proffering a roast dinner. The power cut had prevented them from cooking it yesterday . Great neighbours.
Of the packages that Tracey took in, one was a Hotel Chocolat Advent Calendar from Pen. Yum. Ironically I was listening to a programme about the trend in Adult Adventure Calendars on the drive today. Roll on December 1st.
The rest of the day passed easily enough with me sitting out the contents of my various bags and general unpacking. I’ve now made a right mess everywhere.
I felt very tired – the journey had not been quick.
Thought for the day

I recognise that boat and that bench. This is where I walk at Pangbourne Meadows .

Near Bicester.

This might have been Welshpool.
