Got my feet back

I enjoyed a reasonable night and lay around whilst I psyched myself up for leafy tasks, which I knew would be lightweight but backbreaking. I was not wrong. Art was abandoned for the day.

It was a chilly start followed by a beautiful, sunny and quite warm day. A golden day.

I procrastinated for a while, and even (usefully) moved and chucked some of the clutter from the utility room, so the boiler was more accessible for the fixer later in the day.

The leaves – I could procrastinate no more. I found my leaf rake and made a leaf mountain of raked leaves on the grass and a hill of raked leaves on the shed patio. I looked at the bin and the size of the piles. It seemed a bit of a hopeless task to expect all that mountain to fit in the bin. But after some forceful compression, it sort of did. There are plenty of stray leaves left and a few more to drop.

Unfortunately, the grass has grown since last mown. And we all know we what that might mean. Once the brown bin is freed up tomorrow.

The CH fixer was due at 2.00pm so I worked out I just had time to get to the monthly local coffee morning for a while. I took H and the car with me. I was glad I went because I had a good chat with local neighbours.

From there, H and I went straight to Cholsey for a proper walk. But I forgot to take my phone with me, so missed a couple of communications. But the walk was utterly lovely.

Yesterday, my feet had swollen up and were so painful and burning, I could not get my walking Skechers on and went out walkies in crocs. Today my feet have returned to normal, I have my old feet back again, no problem putting shoes on and only usual walking ankle pain. I’m happy about that. An odd event though.

But the CH man and his apprentice were on time. Great chap, very thorough and did all sorts of things the previous shyster did not do in previous years. He even fixed the digistat by putting one of his own batteries in it!!!!! My batteries had a use by date of 2032 so the reason his worked and mine did not is a mystery to me, but no surprise to him. I think he’s done this before. He also fixed the kitchen sink tap with a few strong, manly turns of the collar over the screw. He can come again.

And he gave me a rough quote for replacing the en suite shower which falls off the wall from time to time. (but hey, it has recently stayed in place for over a year) The rough is entirely reasonable. His other rough quote for renovating the whole ensuite made me realise it would not be money well spent. Or there are other things I would rather do with it.

I reorganised some of the clutter in the utility room, and whilst doing so, found the original secateurs, as opposed to the recently purchased replacement secateurs which I had also lost. They were in my knitting basket. And were baptised yesterday.

I ate a very late lunch / early supper, sorted some washing and watched a bit of TV.

I am seriously annoyed with the BBC for axing Doctors, the one soap I enjoy. It is ironic that Timothy West had a cameo appearance today, the day his death was announced. Lots of famous and talented actors cut their teeth in Doctors, Eddie Redmayne for example. It also raises topical medical issues. Last episode tomorrow.

The day drew to the end and I woke up and came to bed, via the washing machine and tumble drier. And Bake-off Catch up.

Thought for the Day
