When I awoke, I could hear the rain dripping from a blocked section of gutter. And that was the theme for the day, rain, very very heavy at times, interspersed with sunny spells. I have now booked my window cleaner to clean my gutters.
I decided to swim, but I travelled to Didcot the long way round, in order to avoid cross country flooding. A wise decision I think. Some torrential rain dropped on the way. But the return drive was dry. Again, via Wallingford.
The pool was quite busy with the usual hub of very slow swimmers holding up proceedings. I was annoyed with myself because I had left my watch on its charger so I had to count my lengths. All 32 of them. In fact, as I discovered later in the day, I probably had not left my watch on its charger at all because it went to low battery later in the day. It had probably fallen off the charger overnight.
Next job was to walk little H. The rain was so heavy that I took my heavy duty dry robe with me. And we set off for our walk. The rain evaporated away and the sun came out and I was definitely overheated. And overdressed.

Bonkers dog rolling wet grass and came home with all sorts of bits and pieces sticking out of her.
I returned H home and then set off to Hampstead Norreys to meet Brenda at their rather lovely Community Shop / Cafe. Their food is home made and delicious. They also stock an interesting and useful range in products.? And cakes.? And plants. And essentials and quirky stuff. And did I mention their cakes?
There was alarming flooding on the roads and more heavy rain whilst we were there. Really hard-hitting and drenching rain, as some other customer pointed out.
As a result, I returned home via Compton in order to avoid the lakes I had driven through on my outward journey.
H showed no interest at all in going outside for most of the rest of the day. She stepped onto the patio to drink some accumulated rainwater and then stood pathetically outside the back door.
I revisited my burnt siena painting and tarted it up a bit and considered a background. Considered. Then I consulted the Oracle in Devon – Pen. And she made some suggestions.
RBH messaged me to say they want me to go to Urological Outpatients on 23/10, so I should be parting company with the stent in two weeks.
Eleanor and Terry have landed at Grammeno for their ten days. May they enjoy it.
Optician tomorrow, possibly followed by a swim depending on timing.
Thought for the Day
