I expected the temperature to have taken a big drop but it has not – around 27C today. Because I was expecting it to be cooler, I was deceived into going for a slightly later walk, leaving home around 08.00. That was quite a mistake because it was really warm down at the Meadows.
Very little litter today. Can’t think why. All the puddles probably held the clue. I thought last night’s storm must have been a bit off-putting. However a boat dweller, with a pretty cocker spaniel, informed me that there had been some sort of rave there last night. A tidy rave at least.
The Meadows were quite busy with dog walkers, probably a reflection of my later departure. By the time I arrived back at the car, the car park was heaving. And no space at all for anyone arriving then.
The naughty boat with the yellow awning and toddlers and cats received a surprise as the cat found itself defending itself against two interested dogs. It was a fluffy ball of hiss and spit. This boat is naughty because mooring at this time of year is permitted for 24 hours. It was there when Eleanor was here at least 10 days ago. She pointed out that they were organising a children’s party.
The wisdom of a watery holiday with toddlers and two cats leaves me wondering about the common sense of the boaters.
We returned home to check how damp the flower pots were. Dampish was the answer but they would need a hosing by the end of the day. There is so much foliage in my pots that rain has difficulty penetrating it. However, the heavy rain seemed to have had more success in penetrating my protective covers over the furniture, but not by much. But enough for me to need to air a few things. Sadly, the heat put me off sitting outside later in the morning.
I watched some more Olympics, had a snooze and contemplated a few chores. H is now wearing her anti-bark collar due to her being a bit noisy at various times. I’ve only had to trigger it twice. And she has been quiet since.
Well, that was a bit optimistic! I have had trigger the anti bark collar a few more times. But she does obey the shut up signal.
The Illis seem to have arrived safely in Norway and are doing hikes. According to G’s photos. No one else has sent any news. Yet. Perhaps they should do a blog. They could write up a day each, in rotation.
Pen seems to be enjoying her pool. Not sure about the others. I don’t think they had the rain we had.
But Wallingford received its own share on Thursday night.
Thought for the Day

It is now Saturday morning and rain is gently falling. We are expecting 22C which will do me nicely. I’m in no hurry to go out!
