Dull, damp start, sunny and warm end.

Another good night’s sleep without any significant interruption. I think. Having someone else in the house seems to keep me better confined to my bed.

The plan had been to visit the Illis and Pen, Dave and Mike early this morning around 08.00. After G was safely on the school bus and not to be distracted. But Eleanor, wisely, decided not to visit the poxy household due to the facts 1. She did not want Covid and 2. She was making a hospital visit on her way home in the afternoon.

So she walked Kallie and I set off with H for the Illis. Ali was up and seemed to be a bit better and everyone else except F wandered down to say hello. It turns out that Mike, DCR’s brother, had Covid after the party too. So he was not bothered about visiting a possibly poxy house. DCI and G seem to have escaped. So far. Those that went all enjoyed the Elbow concert which was outdoors in Engelfield’s amazing grounds:

I enjoyed a cup of coffee and received Greek treats from Pen, particularly olive oil and gigantes, melon seeds and a sketch kit holder. Great! Thank you.

When I was on my way up there, I ambushed DCI and Minnie who were just setting off on a walk, so he kindly took H with him as well which saved me some time and energy.

H arrived back full of suitable panting after her trip up Lardon Chase. A bit different from my walks up on Lardon Chase where we start at the top. Very helpful thank you.

Eleanor returned home, with a damp dog and we chatted for a bit before eating an early lunch of the usual collection of bits and pieces.

She left soon after lunch because she was going to link up with Terry who would morph into a dog minder whilst she visited Christine. She arrived back home in Lewes sometime safely later.

I dashed into Streatley late in the afternoon to pick up Heidi’s worm and flea tabs ftom the vet, and tabs for me from the GP. Unfortunately some pills were out of stock.

Now this could be a problem because, it is hardly credible, but the utter incompetence of some utility ( might be the gas board) are closing Streatley High Street. AGAIN. FOR 3 WEEKS from Wednesday. This is because they did not do the job properly a year ago. Then the Coombe will be closed too. After all the weeks of closure last year, and in previous years for different reasons, it is hard to believe.

So from Wednesday, we are back to a 20 mile round trip to the doctor or vet. There are other shops elsewhere. So the missing tablets could be a cause of grief.

But this closure is going to wipe out visiting trade for the local hostelry and other small businesses. The pharmacy is closing from today for the full duration. But then that pharmacy has always had problems providing any sort of decent service. Luckily, or otherwise, my tabs are directly dispensed at the surgery.

Things settled down once home. The garden got watered, both lots of washing were dried thanks to a warm wind. The house was a bit empty.

This year, H behaved in exemplary fashion towards little Kallie who is the cutest dog ever. Last year she was a bit jealous but this year they both just got on with their own business.
