Fiery

Today has been very very hot up to 32C and very humid. Too hot and too humid for me. And for H I think.

We were out at Pangbourne at around 06.00 and it was very pleasant. It was a sleeveless day but the temperature was very pleasant.

Only a few dog walkers were out and about and one or two joggers. Neither of us had much energy.

I timed it nicely so I could drop H off at home and enter Waitrose around 08.00 when it opened. So far, so good and I arrived at the tills with a trolley laden with goodies for my weekend of entertainment.

BUT – No online payments accepted. WHAT? The biggest IT disruption EVER, so C4 news is telling me. And it was global so somebody had cocked up. Now this was a bit tricky … I had my phone with me and that was about it. Until… I found £50 tucked away in my gold bag. The £50 that H had not eaten the other day.
With the help of a kindly staff member, I checked out ££50 worth of chilled and frozen food and took it home.

Any chilled I did not take, I photographed, to remind me what I had left behind to be put back on the shelves. . And cupboard, non-chilled groceries remained in the trolley whilst I went home to try and find some cash. I did alright – £100 of alright. So I returned to Waitrose to replenish the trolley and gather up the sorry remains of my shop.

By the time I arrived home for the third time, I was very tired. I busied myself with a few chores before Eleanor’s arrival.

Her drive was not easy. We were able to sit outside for a while, unfried and enjoyed a catch up. I gave her some lunch – not that exciting but it did the job. I do feed my guests . Sometimes.

We hid inside after that. Ignoring the furnace outside.

The online outage has affected banks, airlines, shops, trains. What a nightmare!

At 17.50 I left to pick up F in Wallingford, after her week of training to be a hockey coach at Oundle. (Coach not umpire) She was quite impressed by the size of the school and the facilities there. So she now is qualified as a ? L1 hockey coach which will be very useful because she can earn money via this skill.

She obviously enjoyed her 5 days away.

Alex is still poorly and as for the others – I know not.

Thought for the Day

Written by the wife of Michael Moseley :

“Grief can feel overwhelming. Light and beautiful. Catch you by surprise. Feel like the weight of a stone or a sharp pain. It changes unexpectedly,” she said.

“As people often say, it’s a journey, not all sad and you take each day at a time.”
