Showers

Today has been more like a showery April day, cool with really really heavy showers, so heavy it was tricky to see to drive and spray was constant hassle on the motorways.

It was raining when I awoke and I procrastinated about getting going and out with H in the vain hope that the rain would go away somewhere else, but it did not.

So H and I were rained on in Cholsey Meadows, but she did the business. And went on another of her duck hunts as she explored the rushes. She was quite unwilling to abandon her hunt but I was getting wetter. And H was wetter still.

I agreed with the Ali that H could go to their house whilst I went for my reunion in Surbiton. The Illis were divided – Dave and G were already on their way to Leicester. Ali and F would follow this afternoon. I would collect H and Minnie after my outing to Surbiton, and that is what happened.

My journey to Surbiton was very unpleasant. Now I know the way to Henley and it is not the way Apple Maps chose to take me. Every back road imaginable was flagged up. And when I arrived at the motorway it was hazardous with water and spray, traffic and roadworks. I saw not a single working road person. However roadside signs assured car drivers that people were at work but they were just out of sight.

Yeah right.

Our reunion was hosted by all members of the Shah family – Farouk, his three daughters and one son and an assortment of wonderful grandchildren .

Ashborough house was absolutely amazing – very grand and very big – I sneaked a peak on Right Move sold prices and it went for £3.5 million in 2017. And they spent money on it! Beautiful, elegant etc.

Pen and Dave had travelled from Devon; Neal was ill so he and Anne were missing; Anne W and John were also there. Our group is dwindling – we have lost Steve, Rahila and now T.

The meal was amazing – several curry dishes made by various family members. A lamb pilau dish, a yellow chicken dish, a wonderful aubergine / potato dish, shami kebabs and Dahl. Plus naan, yogurt etc and other sundries. The spicing was what ‘made’ the dishes – the heat was negligible.

I was introduced to the concept of a cloud kitchen via Farooq’s Don because he has one. A business venture I think.

My journey home was trouble free. Whilst out, I was told that the M4 eastbound was enjoying a weekend planned closure at some points which probably explains my strange outbound route via Henley.

I gathered up H and Minnie from the Illis and brought them home.

Thought for the Day

The curries we had today were in no way hot. But were utterly delicious.
