Improving

Today’s weather is definitely an improvement on yesterday’s revolting effort.

I was awake quite early which was helpful because I had to be at the doc’s quite early for a routine blood test . That was all quickly done and dusted.

There is no escaping Wendy and Burt – who should pitch up in the waiting room at the surgery? Wendy’s strident tones were later heard in the garden whilst she vented long and loud over something or other.

The early morning was cool and breezy which swiftly improved when the sun graced us with its presence.

I had been intending to take H straight on for a little chat with T but I remembered the cattle and, from the car, as I drove through Goring, I could see them scattered across the hillside, so I went to Cholsey instead.

The walk was pleasant enough but we did not hang around although H was in a bit of a hurry covering a lot of ground. Probably a reflection of the wet lead walk of yesterday.

Upon my return home, I faffed around in the garden and contemplated mowing the grass but it was still wet and heavy. I delivered some slug pellets to appropriate locations and removed a snail who was slithering over a seat cushion under the waterproof covering. Water had sneaked in onto one of the reclining chair cushions so that was removed and placed inside to dry off.

It was soon time to meet Carer friends for one of our regular catch ups, which would have been pleasant if the restaurant at Thatcham Garden Centre had been more efficient. It never was efficient which is why we stopped going there, and despite change of ownership, things have not improved.

The jacket potato was alright but not overly exciting. I watched the others tuck into cake and polished the halo that I was awarded for resisting.

After the excitements of the garden centre, I went to meet Fleur after her two exams and a musical rehearsal.

And, finally, I dashed round the lawn with the mower … and inspected the plants for a second time.

Now and then … 10 days ago…

Just a glimpse of my attempts at green finger perfection.

Tomorrow I shall make my way up to Leeds. On Saturday, Kathryn and I and Heidi and her daughter’s two labradors will meet up at her house. She is having ongoing treatment for liver cancer and cannot drive at the moment, so her house it is.

Seasalt have been subject to fraudulent activity and some nasty little s…s have hacked into their website and have used their online shop, logos, details etc to take other people’s money including mine. Fortunately the sum (£46) was not huge. And worse still, bank details. Because I need my bank card this weekend, I didn’t want it blocked so I have it temporarily frozen. It is quite easy to freeze and unfreeze it. And I now have some cash and have paid the hotel room bill. My current card is only a couple of months old… here we go again.
