Miserable is my one word (in the role of someone who is living through the weather, rather than the role of a forecaster) to describe the weather today.
It was grey and raining early on and raining less later on and it was actually raining heavily much later on.
I opted for a lie in because I thought I might swim this afternoon.
But I kept myself busy, swapping mattresses around and changing all the bedding. Once the machine had finished, I stuffed the duvet cover in the tumble drier. And took H out for her walk.
We wandered around Cholsey Meadows and to the ponds in the drizzle. We inspected the deep holes and a new pump seems to have been fitted and there is no generator at work.

I studied the ripples the rain drops made on the surface waters of the ponds. H spied the ducks and the ducks spied H. And paddled tantalizingly out of reach.

We drove home and I rescued the duvet cover from the drier and battled with it because it did not want to go inside irs cover. It never does. I won this super king size battle and then thought the bed looked very comfy. And I thought I had better test the new arrangement. It met my satisfaction. But I knew what would happen if I were to linger.
A super down filled super king size duvet is actually quite heavy and quite lively and definitely does not like to be encased within the four corners of a cover. I end up exhausted! And in a heap.
So, I was off for my swim. The pool was very quiet and most of the lane ropes had been removed. But there was plenty of space for me to swim up and down. A few troublesome people got in and then swam and removed themselves.
There was some strange behaviour and noise coming from a couple. The young man kept thrashing the water and shouting and nearly kicked my head off. It took me a while to realise he had some disability or other.
it was a good time to swim and for once I had clothes to deal with, not just a dry robe. That meant I could pop into the Orchard Centre and grab some items from M and S.
The drive from Didcot was not so stunning today. The colours were muted and drab. And the landscape, normally so uplifting, was depressing. The new small sea bird sea (the one that was a dry field, near Blewbury, and grew to be a landlocked sea, then shrunk to a lake, then to a pond until it rained again) is still vast.
I have to confess to snapping at Burt earlier this morning after the doggy walk. I breathed a sigh of relief as I pulled into the drive when I saw their car was not there. It’s always a relief to know they are out and that I won’t be accosted by Burt. However, by the time my handbrake was on, W and B too had arrived home.
I was peacefully sitting in my car, minding my own business, sorting the bags to carry into the house. Burt should have been doing the same for Wendy. But oh no, he has to wobble his way towards my car, calling me his duck, ( makes me irritable) again, and offering to help. As if! What he really wants to do is stick his nose into my business. I snapped back, loudly, that I was fine, thank you… I think I included a thank you. My tone of voice must have had its effect because he retreated to his own car very quickly.
Various visitors have recently commented on his attitude and being unable to get to my front door without interference from Burt.
Anyway, that was earlier and there is nothing I like more than entering our home and shutting the door on the world outside.
By the time I was home from my swim, I was up for cooking an early supper, late lunch. I caught up with some TV until the doze zone caught up with me. Deadwater Fell and the lovely David Tennant is a current watch.
Lovely clean sheets and a swapped mattress awaited at bedtime.
And it was still damp and miserable outside. Very heavy rain is forecast for Friday.
Thought for the Day
Summer days…

Not much beach at the moment. That whole field is underwater.
