This time it was with my Basingstoke friends/ ex colleagues. Having parted company at school around New Year 2021, we have been meeting for 23 years now. Not bad going.
I slept quite well- to around 05.30, I think, though I did fall asleep in the chair and caught up with Traitors afterwards.
There was no immediate emergency to arise so I did not hurry. I had domestic jobs, including creating soup, to do and thereafter was so seized by sloth, I decided that it would be more expedient to walk H on the way to the Butt Inn.
This decision was largely helped along because I knew I would require a detour to reach my assignation due to the closure of Aldermaston Bridge.
I headed for Padworth Common, the Satnav guiding me on a chaotic mystery tour, via flooded fields. Lots of lying water still. But Padworth Common is a triumph of gravel laid footpaths over muddy tracks, and is a definite plus of a discovery. I will be back. Still it requires quite a drive but is nearer than Greenham.
It was lovely to see Sue and Jane and there was no deadline for my departure today, so we lingered on a bit. The Butt Inn was busy, expecting… a Wake. But the staff now recognise us and are welcoming. H was able join us inside snd she just lay down on the floor, not attached to anything, and enjoyed a dog biscuit and a drink, such exemplary behaviour.
H and I returned home to have a little rest and a worm tablet. This was tucked deep into a piece of chicken. My trick worked.
I grabbed a half hour snooze to be awoken by Ali and Fleur who pooped by, briefly, in their way to hockey. They brought a lovely little metal robin for the garden, a gift from Caroline.
I was not hungry after my lunch out so I finished off the soup I had started making before I went out. This was merely a base concocted out of all the vegetables lying around in the fridge that I would not have time to eat before going away tomorrow. It is now liquidiser and in portions in the freezer. I did test out a small portion after I woke up after a second doze.
Eype, where I will be heading tomorrow, is over 2 hours away in the car. I would like to get away by midday so H and I can enjoy a beach walk before checking in at our hotel around 16.00.
