Slippery – a second retirement

I slept better! Yes I did awake in the night at the usual silly o’clock, but I drifted off again. I could put it all down to the Yogi bed time tea that Pen bought. It tastes nice and obviously contains some sleep inducing drug or other.

The pulled muscle in my side is still pulled. After I arose and flexed ‘forever,’ because I forgot to stop the work out when it sent me to sleep, I eyed up the weather.
No wonder the dogs were unenthusiastic when I offered them the great outdoors. It was pouring with rain – and not for a change.

The forecast is unremittingly dismal over the coming next 10 days. I’m fed up with wet and mud and grey.
I filled my Christmas hotty with hot water to comfort that tweak, and sat down with it on the sofa and it was just the job! Yet another short sleep assailed me and it was still morning.

And it was still raining when I woke up.

But I knew it was scheduled to be dry from around midday.

I pondered somewhat over where to walk the dogs. It needed to be somewhere unmuddy. I chose Cholsey Rec in the end because the grass is usually OK; the car park is tarmac and it is close to Tesco’s Express where I needed to buy fruit.
I tottered out across the Rec, admiring the new adult gym equipment on the way.

That was not there a month ago. I shall be testing it out when the seats are dry and I don’t have a tweak in my side.
However, after wandering on, it wasn’t long before I found myself inelegantly flat on my back, my feet having detached themselves from the rest of me. I was in a muddy hole from which I could not find an easy way out.

This was because my feet just slid around gouging away at the mud. The more I gouged the muddier I became, and the more slippery it became where my feet were busy at work. Luckily, a star quality Good Samaritan was passing by, and gave me a bit more than a helping hand. I sat down in the little shelter for a while, to recover my lost dignity. I expect my antics are the main topic of Cholsey conversation.
I chatted with a passing lady who was being exercised by her golden Labrador and Minnie and H joined in . Minnie galloped around and around and so did H for a couple of circuits. Futile extra exercise is always good.

Tesco’s was busy which meant there was nowhere to park. So I did a couple of circuits, motorised this time, and then parked and picked up fresh fruit for a fruit salad. For tomorrow. Tesco’s was a mud free zone until my arrival. I made sure to avoid eye contact with everybody in there in my posh mud coat.

I’ve arranged to leave H with the Illis when I return Minnie on the way to Newbury tomorrow. She will get a good walk and I will get a cup of coffee. And then I will pick up Brenda to take her to see Michael.

H has been quite edgy and growly all day, constantly on the look out for …? Well you tell me.

I had left something cooking whilst I was out, which meant I entered the house to a delicious smell and ate a slightly overcooked bean stew (I had to add water because it was drying out).

The day’s nastiness has got to me. I’m retiring from muddy walks. I’ve had my fill of them. Unfortunately there is little obvious relief in sight. My floors need mopping (again) and the carpets need hoovering. (I’ll pretend it’s again) dog hair and dead bits of flower prevail.

A few bright, chilly and dry days would be welcome.

Update: 05.37 Sunday , NYE… lest there be any doubt – it’s still raining.

We are now concentrating on T’s funeral -3/1/24 at 4.00pm – West Berks Crematorium and afterwards at the Spring Inn, Bath Road. For anyone who has missed out on info.
I need to sort H out for that. We will be absent a while.
