Storm Gerrit has made the day very windy and very wet. Unpleasant really.
I had a difficult night, one way and another, which meant sleep was patchy though I did catch up later in the early morning, and again, later in the day.
I reawoke in time to realise that I had time to get to Slimming World. I did not feel like going after a week of festive food. But the meeting was sparsely attended, mostly by people I recognised, who were kind and sympathetic towards me. I had lost 0.5 lbs so I’ll take that.
And last week, unbeknownst to me I had won Slimmer of the Week and only got the certificate this week, along with another one for Slimmer of the Month.
SPOILER ALERT Boast coming: I’ve had 3x slimmer of the month. I deserve to be like Twiggy. And I’m far from it.8

I checked myself out of SW world for next week because we are out and about on Funeral business.
I returned home to gather up H so that we could venture out in the pouring rain and wind, by the river at Pangbourne. I kitted myself out in my new dry robe, and dry it kept me and was long enough for me not to get a wet bottom when I sat on a bench. And I admired the river as the rain slid off me. The dry robe is a very magnificent garment. Nothing else I own would have worked so well against the elements.

The ground was slippery and muddy so we slid our way back to the car and thence home.
Time for soup . I didn’t intend to have a snooze. I intended to watch the rest of the Death in Paradise Christmas Special. I failed miserably because the snooze won. I’m still trying to catch up with it now.
Ali and Dave brought me Minnie in the late afternoon as it was getting dark. They were waiting for Gerrit to have done his/her worst before setting off.
I think they arrived in Leeds around 21.00. By now I had caught up with Death in Paradise, and Call the Midwife. Murder is Easy was next on the list – an Agatha Christie. She is, of course, our local claim to fame, being buried in Cholsey Churchyard and having lived in Wallingford for some 40 years. There is a new statue to honour her there.

And so I sat around for most of the rest of the day. I’m still working my way through various items of fresh fruit and veg that I have had for a while. I was awarded Slummimg World’s weekly reward for Slimmer of the week because this week’s winner had left. It was mostly tins of fish and one of tomatoes. Mackerel, sardines and pilchards. I can’t remember when I last ate pilchards. I suppose they will compliment a jacket potato. One day.
Thought for the Day
