Warmth!

I was up at some ghastly early time due to T coughing. Not an explosive coughing fit but just regular chesty attempts. That made it time for a cuppa.
I did my ward rounds an hour earlier than usual. And T’s chest eventually calmed down and he slept on.
I was in no hurry to get up apart from rationalise some of the mess in the utility room so that the underfloor heating engineer could actually get in there.
My laziness was disturbed by a message to say the engineer was on his was way, aiming 11.30 rather than the 1.30ish that I was expecting.

The earlier arrival was good news. It didn’t take him long to spot the first problem – two little tap things screwed down on the manifold therefore no hot water flowing through.
There was not much water in the system as a result of the various previous failings of other people, which meant there was not much, or even anything, to heat up.

Only one person could have been responsible for that – our incompetent ‘inexpert’ of two weeks ago. There was also the original fault that needed fixing and he replaced one or two other small parts that were reflecting their age.

He obviously knew what he was doing and the floors were warm before he left. I remember one floor taking nearly a week to heat last winter. This was instant. He had a clever little thermo imaging gizmo that showed warmth in the floor.

Heidi got her walk late in the afternoon and I bought T some nibbles whilst I was out.
We were at Pangbourne. There were very few other people there and it was very chilly, but H was determined to have her paddle.

Tomorrow morning is a mess and is already annoying me. Goodness knows when I will get H out. Or how I will get through it. Nothing major – just annoyances which will mean chasing my tail.

The rest of the day passed in warmth. T passed it in bed. I tried to watch some TV in the evening but I did not last long – dreadful lack of stamina and all that . However, I awoke up still cosy, at midnight, with warmish toes. That was a recent first, no need to thaw myself out last night.

I upgraded myself during the night. That took a while. There are changes …that I have yet to discover.

Thought for the Day
