A reasonably good sleep, awakening with daylight around 07.00. Well… daylight once I opened the curtains. We enjoyed a leisurely start to the day before heading for Holkham Hall. Home to the Glenconner tribe.
This is a vast stately pile, surrounded by seriously vast grounds, harbouring a vast herd of deer. The grounds included a vast walled garden, where we spent much of the morning admiring the plants and fruits. All this was followed by a picnic in the sunshine.
After all that excitement, we nearly missed out on a tour round the house. This was because today it was closing at 14.00 due to an evening banquet. The banquet being held was for members of Lady Glenconner’s book club. Or so we were told.

Wonderful evening entertainment followed, in the form of a visiting choir who kept our feet tapping and our throats warbling.

It has been a lovely few days. I feel it is a shame to depart, only just having got to know everyone.
The singing this evening – I was watching T so enjoying himself joining in. Waves of sadness overcame me at the thought of what is to come.
He won’t remember this holiday, but I will. Something totally different for us. A good last throw of the holiday dice.
