Norfolk Day 1

It’s raining, a great way to start a holiday.

I had a very good sleep yesterday evening after our meal at Burcot. The sleep actually went on all night apart from an interlude where I caught up on two episodes of Casualty. One was very moving and beautifully acted althoughit had nothing to do with A and E, but followed a character, with motor neurone disease, and his partner on a last journey to Switzerland.
The other focussed on addiction and how hard it is to treat it.

I arose this morning with all the packing to do. So I left T snoring. We are only away 5 days and the cleaners will visit so I did not engage in major tidying of anything really. But it was still necessary to sort out the kitchen dishes etc. And I think I forgot to put the dishwasher on. But hey, we have clean sheets.

I succeeded in folding the wheel chair and it fitted easily into the car. I relieved the boot of heaps of carrier bags and a good deal of Tony’s wardrobe, which seemed to be making use of the car boot as additional storage. I added 3 wheelie bags, one of which was limited to medicines, chargers etc and woolly sweaters and a couple of emergency haemorrhage towels.

Heidi was delivered to Fleur with extra leads to use for restraint. And we were off.

Oxford – the A34 is still a mess and it wasn’t long before I got us lost, somewhere up and down the M40. Up and down because we did a little repetitive tour of it. I gave up chose to ignore the Satnav and took us on another tour, this time, of all the villages around Aylesbury and Buckingham that no one has ever visited before. We just needed to check they were still there.
After this tour of organised mystery we were on our way towards Bedford, which changed to Cambridge and then Peterborough and eventually Kings Lynn and then Burnham. Burnham Market is very pretty with an interesting selection of shops which we did not visit.

Burnham Overy Staithe is where the remaining elements of civilisation meet the sea with muddy channels aplenty. And an ice cream van that T did not know how to approach for an ice cream. The ice cream that he could not eat quickly enough, so it ran all over his clothes adding a creamy layer to the coffee layer that already mottled his camel coloured trousers. I only brought him 3 pairs of trousers! One down and two to go!

We pottered around a bit by this estuary and then checked in at The Hero. We have a cosy ground floor room. It is very strange not having little H with us. And I miss her. T took her into Fleur and she kept looking back at me.
We are as bad as each other.

Our hotel room is definitely cosy (small) but comfortable enough. The bed seems very small compared with the 6ft monster we occupy at home. Give me that any day! It looks down a lane straight out at boats etc.
We enjoyed a very good evening meal before retiring for World Cup Rugby. Which I could not get to play on our room TV. Made do with the phone. T was not bothered anyway. Not like 2003.
We were visited by a loud storm in the night (Sunday) which brought plenty of heavy rain

Frankie is making friends but feeling homesick. We hope it passes.
