Only it didn’t start too well. Whilst making brekkie, at quite a late hour, I was struggling to understand why the toaster was not toasting. The timer mechanism was turning but there was no heat, I hoped T would not notice and took him his toast and coffee.
And then the penny dropped . The coffee was lukewarm. So the kettle had not run its full course. Further investigation revealed the fridge was off as was the washing machine and tumble drier. A power cut! But no! This one circuit had taken early retirement. This was naughty, my holiday clothes were inside that machine.
With difficulty, I examined the cupboard where such bits of electrical equipment that control things are kept. It is very high up. Teetering on my toes, on a step raiser, I could see a tripped switch, a big fat grey one. I pushed it up and life crept back into the inactive apparatus once more.
I swept through the house, gathering up more washing, turfing T out of bed so I could change the sheets etc etc.
I did not do a lot of the things I intended to.
Instead we went to watch Fleur play hockey and helped out by taking her back home so she could shower before going out to work. Something to do with helping at a party. Ali was in Paris and Dave was being stretched.
The Roberts family were busy en route to Stratford, London , taking Frankie to start university. To her flat on the 7th floor by the Olympic Park. She will share this with 9 others. The flat occupation did not start well. It was full of debris and had not been cleaned after previous occupants. She was warned by other new arrivals. Dave was ‘on’ it. I hope it got sorted. It’s costing a small fortune!

We took H down to Pangbourne but it was very busy and we were unable to let her off the lead where we settled. Why? Too many groups sitting around; too many picnics for her to raid .

The remains of her grooming from yesterday were still scattered near by. I was told the birds would scavenge them.
T and I ate a very good Birthday meal at the Chequers at Burcot. And came home for a sleep. Which saw the evening disappear.
I would like to thank everyone for their birthday wishes. And gifts. It is very touching. And probably the last birthday I will share with T which makes it particularly poignant. He was always so good at remembering and so sweet in his thoughtfulness. Once. Others make up for it now. Thank you.
We are off to Norfolk tomorrow…
In the meantime – a bit different from Aylesbeare and Exeter.
