True Grit

posted late morning on Monday 4/9

I had been quite deeply asleep on Sunday morning, when something woke me up. At least one of my eyes appeared to be stuck so it would not open. And then those gritty feelings kicked in. Where had that come from? That lorry load of grit that was making my eyes so sore?
There is nothing more annoying. I’ve had this delightful experience before and didn’t want it again.
The pricking became an issue. I tried a sort of eye bath but that did not work. So the final solution was deployed. A solution of shampoo and shower. I made sure the shampoo went in my eyes, and the grit was no match for this combination.
There was quite a bit of inconvenient discomfort too, but after a short while, I felt the grit might have shifted, and after a long while, I knew it definitely had.

The day could now go ahead. It was not inviting outside. T remained a slug in bed. I intended to take the dogs out at Pangbourne, but the absence of a parking space allowed me a rethink. Men chasing a ball meant the Rec parking was overloaded. And the Dolphin was just as full.

I then drove all the way back to Goring and Gatehampton. We haven’t been here for a while, because I find the track to the river tedious, despite the walk being a delight.

The ground work taking place has proved to be the preparation for a new housing estate described as ‘Elegant Homes.’ The construction company seems to have commandeered the rutted lane where walkers park. They clearly don’t trust us car drivers not to enter their sacred site.

Despite all this, H and Minnie enjoyed their walk, finding places to splash around in the river. It was, by now, hot, so the towpath shade was welcome.

I purchased a new supply of branded dish washer tablets and returned home to provide snacks for T who has not eaten much over the last couple of days.
I gave him one of the fruit drink samples, the ones you have to get on prescription, that contain a variety of nutrients. The blackcurrant one was downed in no time, without negative comment, so I will try a different flavour later.

I didn’t do much with the rest of the day. I watched Maryland – a 3 parter, set on the IOM. An interesting story line, which did not involve detection, for once.
T did not get up or do anything much. Apart from tell me how stupid I was to want the window open all night. That burglars might enter ( it’s a very small window) and we would be murdered in our beds. I didn’t remind him of the presence of the two dogs . He has just asked Minnie’s name, again, and asked why we have her here, 3 weeks in. And he checked that Peru is S America.

A few more pics from our travellers, who, by now, should have taken off on the flight from Lima to Newark. (And might even have landed there by now)
