In Recovery

I still seem to be recovering from a busy week. I was awoken in the night by a flurry of messages from the Peruvian explorers who seem to be having a fabulous time, headed by Fleur and George. George looking like a beekeeper with his new favourite headgear which is an anti mosquito measure I believe.
I have read such things exist in Peru. Most photos etc were posted yesterday. Though I didn’t mention the dust which penetrated thick trousers giving their legs a new colour tone. I bet they were glad of those ensuite showers.
Today they descend to lower altitudes and coffee and passion fruit plantations and warm springs which will soothe their aching muscles. And jungle domes for the night. Not en suite!

I got the dogs out good and early which was handy because the free car park filled up quickly. Football has started again, for keen locals and their enthusiastic parents. By the river, it was calm and peaceful. By the car park, it was not.
Well, it was peaceful by the river, until the dogs had a completely bonkers few minutes where chasing each other doesn’t really describe it. Even H joined in.
I was ambushed by Kat Syfret who was walking Harry, her dog. We have arranged a get together next Wednesday. She was bemoaning the fact that Nick had torn his Achilles tendon, about 6 weeks ago, and can’t drive and she is having to take him everywhere and walk the dog! She is almost walking in my shoes, but without the dementia bit. I’ll tell her it’s good practice when I see her again.

My ankle actually felt a bit better. But the bony bit that sticks out is still very sore to touch. I could always amputate I suppose.

I lay around for a bit, reading the recipe for a quite complicated veg lasagne that I’m going to make to eat tomorrow when our visitors come. It suggests that making it the day before leads to a more solid outcome. ie not a swamp which is what Terry, Chris and E received earlier in the week. They have good appetites!

It has a base layer of a spinach and ricotta mix , followed by fresh lasagne sheets and then lightly fried veg and then more lasagne sheets and then a rich tomato sauce with cheese / mozzarella scattered on top. Not a cheese sauce. We shall see – it is in the oven. With a sample for us for supper. But I ran out of lasagne sheets so I’m hoping potato will work as a substitute.

All will become clear.

Well the substitute potato worked and it was very tasty. So I am hoping the big one I made will do the job tomorrow. I will have to have some sort of meat or fish alongside. I think we will be eating left overs from the freezer.
I had better make a crumble too. Fortunately I have free produce available from earlier in the week.
I can’t really remember what else I did to fill the afternoon, except I made a lot of mess in the kitchen. Again. This is becoming quite a habit.

Our Peruvian adventurers snatched some wifi again. They have descended from altitude and visited a farm or two of some sort, and were about to go to some warm springs, in a vehicle! What a treat!

Tomorrow night they will be in a hotel and it is either tomorrow or the day after that they reach Machu Picchu and then it is back to Cusco.

Midnight mail update ….
Reports of very dirty clothing/ up to 10 hours to trek tomorrow/ Machu Picchu the next day. Arrive Cusco late Monday. Early flight to Iquitos via Lima and jungle trek Tuesday morning. I think.
Inside the jungle dome now (below) …I think they have another mountain to climb tomorrow. A bit like as high as Snowdon. They have sore muscles but soaking in the springs helped.

Above is a map of their exploits.

Random thoughts for the Day
