I’m really not looking forward to the week ahead and beyond, which I know will drag its heavy feet.
This has been another ghastly weekend. Most weekends are dreadful. I knew this one was likely to be, so had investigated hotel prices around Bournemouth. Even ones with mediocre to poor reviews were expecting between £100-£200 per night. Most were £200-£300; I couldn’t believe it. Even I will not pay that.
The trouble with weekends is I’m stuck here unable to do anything much. T lies in bed… yes he’s out of the way, and I get downtime. But it’s not time I can spend doing what I want because he is always there or has to be considered.
And he won’t get up so we can’t set off to go out anywhere at a reasonable time, I keep quiet because otherwise he is aggressive and abusive. It’s not a bundle of fun. He also uses these days to meddle and fiddle and this is quite stressful.
Today, I hadn’t slept particularly well, and was awake before 05.00. I took H to the down-river meadows at Wallingford and we had a really lovely walk in mellow warm sunshine. Luckily there was a slight breeze which made the walk more pleasant, H kept herself moving at pace, I merely kept moving as there is nothing to sit upon along this stretch of the river. It forms quite a pleasant circular walk and I managed to avoid falling over today.
We didn’t really meet anyone much.

I had a long list of light chores which were all completed before 09.00. Walking H; visiting Tesco Express for heavy shopping; unpacking it; giving the fridge a quick inspection and wipe over; hanging up washing I had loaded earlier; tidying kitchen and loading dishwasher; watering plants front and back; preparing brekkie for Sleeping Beauty.
And only then, and with a sense of satisfaction, did I drag out one of our reclining garden chairs and sit in it. I may even have snoozed.
And, even better, I found the long handled dustpan and brush in the shed. I also eyed up the mountain of cardboard in the shed and in his study. It will have to be sneaked into the bins or to the recycling centre.
The morning melted into the afternoon and I was much much too hot so I returned inside. The temperature reached 29C. There were hints it might rain in the early evening, and a very large black cloud hovered at the front of the house. But it has come to nothing so far.
