Orthodox Easter

I slept badly. Well… incorrect. I slept well in between various interruptions. But interruptions leave me with a feeling of general exhaustion when morning drops by.
The day has seemed long but I can’t remember doing anything in particular. It has been dull and damp , the damp being intermittent. But full of nuisance.

It is Easter Sunday in Greece, and also for Lena and Timur who are experiencing a second Easter in as many weeks.

Rupert and Yoko have been in Greece exploring Papingo and the Vikos Gorge . I had an exchange with Yoko telling her about our trip there over 20 years ago and about expeditions to Agios Georgios and camping by the River Louros. I suggested they visit the Louros Springs when they return, which she hopes to do. I also suggested chatting to Tina about it all. Not the Vikos Gorge, but the Louros bit.

We camped by the aqueduct for weeks whilst studying Palaeolithic flints.

I swam in the pool where Yoko is standing – it was August- there were tiny frogs to keep me company and to make me feel spooked.

Today, I went to Vicars with H in order to buy fruit and vegetables and other sundry items. I was going to take H along the old railway line but the heavens opened with more serious dampness so we contented ourselves with Streatley Meadows, where we can always cut a walk short with a dash back to the car.
H didn’t seem too bothered anyway.

I cooked lunch which was not that tasty. But it filled me up and sent me to sleep.

I was awoken by silent reproof. Someone had left a small black fluffy creature shut out in the garden. One who has not realised it helps to make a noise to get noticed.

It was soon bedtime and as I was going through my nighttime rituals ( ie swapping day clothes to night ones) , T appeared clutching 3 empty coffee mugs and a 3 litre container of milk (left over from the coffee morning). In all our 52 years of marriage, I have never ever known him drink milk. Until today that is. That is what the mugs were for, as he generously offered me some.

Sad to say, I had to decline. He then spent the next few moments telling me what nice milk it was. So this appears to be a new twist. The house is just about empty of beer, and so soft drinks or even water (heaven forbid!!) have dominated lately. Amazon will be out of business soon, now that I no longer regularly order zero beer. Ali suggested I order fruit squash – eg Sugar free Ribena. He likes that.

But, squashes are like washing up liquid and shower gel- they need diluting and T prefers such things neat and syrupy. I watched some neat elderflower cordial disappear a year or two ago.

Thought for the Day
