Another night with a long stretch of pure deep sleep to enjoy, until around 05.00. But of course, I was so grateful that I did not mind shuffling off to make a hot drink. And toasted current bread.
I offered H the back garden but she declined, and sloped off to resume her disturbed sleep.
Eventually, I showered and H and I went to pick up Fleur to take her to Wallingford for a hockey match. The rest of the family were involved in matches elsewhere. I was then presented with a bit of a dilemma as to where to walk H. The decision was controlled by falling rain and slippery ground. Upton, Hampstead Norreys or even Greenham would have been sensible choices. But the first two involved more travel than I wanted to do, and the third – even more travel which I had no valid reason to undertake. ie no reason to go to Newbury.
I chose Lardon Chase which was a silly choice. Not only does the path have an awkward slope at any time, but the grass was thin and the slime was extreme. It was a tottery and slow outing. But I was impressed by the renovated condition of the car park, with tidy hedging and half a beach of flinty gravel. Never mind the newly carved out doughnuts in it. And as for the thunderous noise that is made when a vehicle drives over it. I reminded myself to be grateful for the footfall warning we get in our front drive on less thick gravel.
Not very burglar friendly.
But the rain went away and held off for the duration of the walk.
For lunch, I used the veg curry from the other day and tarted it up into something new. T ate all his and a piece of cake. And then sat in the garden for about 5 minutes.
And the rain started up again.
And carried on a while.
And stopped.
And so on.
Pen had sent me some Betty’s treats for Mother’s Day which I had broken into. The cake was just yummy. I had hidden the treats from naughty fingers. But I allowed the fingers to take a slice.
The curry took its toll on the afternoon and a snooze seized control until the doorbell rang. This ringer proved to be Ali and Fleur and a beautiful bunch of roses, a cushion, cards and a book.
mom doing alright for Mother’s Day.
In between all the rugby it has not been a busy afternoon. I have been lazy.
Thought for the Day – Mother’s Day tomorrow
