Another quite disturbed night. This is getting quite tedious. But I did get a deep doze as morning arrived.
The day dawned greasy and grey. Not exactly raining but almost. Not the sort of day to invite you outside.
I was notified that our new mattresses would arrive around 13.40-14.40 and that Robert was the driver. I was puzzled by a second message saying Kamal was the driver and they would arrive between 13.20 and 14.30. Not for me to wonder why…
I explained to T that the mattresses would be delivered and also explained he would have to get out of bed to remove the old mattress. But it was about as clear as mud to him so I did not pursue it.
Instead, I took H for a quick walk round Cholsey Rec and into the woods. She engaged with a couple of other dogs and even had slobber dripping from her mouth. I’ve never seen H slobber before. Very un-Heidi like!
I picked up some veg to make leek, pea and potato soup. Only they didn’t have leeks. So it became celery, pea and potato soup. With a hint of chilli. It tasted very good but was rejected by T. He can be a nightmare to feed at home.
The mattresses and protective covers arrived on time. The covers had their own DPD van and the mattresses arrived simultaneously but in a different van. Not for me to wonder why…
Then things went pear shaped because T decided to take charge. This was just after he had a mega explosive fit when I removed the towel from the curtain rail in order to put it on the heated towel rail. This, apparently, was a very stupid thing to do because everybody hangs their towels on their curtain rails.
He then decided to direct operations removing the old mattress and setting up the new ones and their protective covers and the now-too-small electric blanket. Decided to… hang on to those intentions… Mind – blowingly awful moments followed. Too much was incomprehensible to him.
I rationalised things for him and gave him two pillows to fit into two pillow cases. Even this was a step too far. From the pillow cases that I handed over, the right way round, they became inside out and twisted and the pillows ‘don’t fit!’
The sheets etc were in the wash and he couldn’t tell the difference between the mattress topper and the duvet. I usually get such activities done whilst he is at Day Care. Silly me for organising it on a Tuesday. But, hey, mattresses are heavy for one person.
I have received serious storm notifications for both Attica and Crete. So Tina and Chris might be joining the wet walks club.

And I’m not sure whether to be charitable about the mess left in Palaiochora by the 500 refugees who have been removed now. Perhaps now they have gone, the authorities will restore the port webcam. I suppose the refugees have enough to worry about without bothering to make sure their litter does not go in the sea.

I feel it’s an aftermath that is not generally seen.
There is an important football match tonight. So I am told.
There was… and for once, it was not so full of the nail -biting agony that is usually dished up when England play football. ie they won comfortably. Sorry Wales.
News of Lena and Timur – Timur starts his new school in Nottingham today. There was no space at the nearest school but he has a place at a newly built school which opened in 2020. It has ‘wrap around’ care which will help Lena as she starts her new job soon. Unfortunately it is a mile away from their new home but, hey, they are good walkers. Not so great for making more local friends though. She is finding everything new and missing friends she had made. But will survive.
There has been a fair bit in the press lately about Ukrainian refugees. The first six months of hosting is now up, and many are being moved on which has created an accommodation shortage. There seems to be the usual lack of future planning in place. I think they thought the war would not last 6 months.
Locally, there are reports of families who returned to their homes, but who now wish to return to the UK. Conditions are extreme over there.
Thought for the Day
