Still Windy

I had one of the best night’s sleep that I have had in a long time. I awoke early then fell asleep again until around 07.45.

The wind was no longer screeching outside our back door, but it was gusting around and about. However the sky was blue and the mountains were looking more friendly.

At this point, I leapt up, left T with coffee and a banana, and dragged H out to the car. We drove down to our usual spot at Elafonisi. H sped away from me with alacrity. Bear in mind she had refused to relieve herself since yesterday afternoon.

Anyway she dashed off into the distance. And we wandered along the coastal path. It was breezy but not wildly so and the sky stayed blue. The mountains were no longer shrouded in ugly grey clouds. And the lagoons were twinkly and turquoise. We came upon a lovely surprise as the path turned towards the sea- a series of enclosed bays, each with its own shallow pool. Almost coves but not quite. Pretty though. And my camera / phone? I had forgotten it.

As I reached the car park, on our return, I encountered Maria, the occupant of the smart camper van. She loved H and made a special trip to her van to fetch her a treat. She plans to tour Crete during the winter. I suggested she visit Grammeno for showers and washing.

I returned home to find T asleep, but that did not last for long. We ate brekkie in the warm of the balcony which is well sheltered from the wind. I may even have dozed off again. Well, I had put a portion of cheese and toast and an egg out for T but he put them away and stayed with grapes.

T eventually got himself up and we took a short cut to Aspro Limni. Only it was not a short cut because we ended up somewhere new to us and completely different to our anticipation. It was a small harbour with a chapel. Very picturesque but holding out against very stormy seas beyond.

We did find our way to Aspro Limni and walked its left perimeter to sit sheltered from the wind which appeared to be strengthening. The surface of the water was a little lumpy, but nothing compared with the seas the other side of its ring of boulders. We chatted to a Ukramian family who were on holiday with their father. He explained men could leave Ukraine, if they had 3 children, or if they had certain status or could work from abroad, I think.

We agreed to go back to Elafonissi so I could show T the little bays I discovered in the morning. The wind was really strong again by now but he kept his whinges to himself. So H gained from another walk and was straight into the water.

It was back to yesterday’s restaurant for lunch- they know not to serve us raki and they also produce delicious food.

Home for a sleep and that was about it.  Apart from more listening to the radio. And the febrile day in politics.

Thought for the Day
