Ukranians – 31 years since you declared your independence and old Putrid is trying to get you back within the fold. May your resistance succeed.
A faintly disturbed night, awaking at some silly o’clock , and staying awake. The day dawned with bluish skies, scattered with a few white blobby things.
The Illis are in Paris for a few days so Lena and Timur are Minnie sitting. Their original plan was to go to London ( again) today, but in the light of it being their national day, they are going to join other Ukranians in Didcot or Wallingford or somewhere similar. Party time!
So, I stuck with the London plan and picked up Minnie at an early hour this morning and then I took both dogs to Gatehampton – for a change. Ha ha.
Boy, did they charge around, and Minnie especially went bonkers and in and out of the Thames. Like yesterday, there was virtually no one around. And I sat on the river bank in the sun today. But I was in receipt of an occasional shower from Minnie.
A special uplifting time. Solitude, peace etc.

We headed for JOhn Lewis at their High Wycombe store as recommended by Ali. This a new and very attractive store sited just outside HW close to the M40, with masses of parking all of its very own.
Buying a bed frame (and possibly a new mattress, though we might get that from IKEA, as their Mattresses come highly recommended) is quite complicated. You have to consider bed frame width, length, height off the ground, depth of mattress, storage available, sprung or not, slatted or not, mattress material and firmness, latex / foam/ tempur / coils and springs.
I’ve rejected springs- I don’t like them.
Our current (ikea) mattress is great – but it will be 20cm too narrow. And at 10 years old, it is supposedly at the end if its life. Hmmph.
There were one or two beds there that were eye wateringly expensive. Others were not so pricey. But two or three, upon which I laid my bulk, were exquisitely comfortable. So comfortable, I had to prop my eyes open.
T wasn’t much help. I can’t rely on his opinion because it is fickle.
The store was easy to reach via Henley, though we used the M40 to return. That was easy too.
Paris appears to be entertaining the Illis!

Crete had interesting clouds too…
There were storms nearby yesterday, I believe. I took a screenshot off the Kountoura webcam early this morning. I was fascinated by the clouds.

Other musings…
My order of Leishguard for H has reached a Royal Mail international depot in the UK. That’s the good news. What is not so good are the mail strikes forecast for 26/8 and 1/9.
