A lull in the heat

That’s what the experts said. I’m not sure I noticed a lull. It seems to have been a very hot day where I hid inside for much of it. Worse is still promised for the weekend. The people who know are muttering about 40C.

I awoke at the usual time, got myself a hot drink, flexed and drifted off again for a short spell.

When I awoke again, around 07.30, H and I walked down to the B and W and took a wander towards Streatley and H’s paddle zone. She dutifully paddled.

It was an utterly beautiful morning. There were a few dogs about with their people. H had a good stretch of her legs.

And I enjoyed it too. On the home stretch, there was a wonderful breeze which was an efficient cooler. So I sat down by the B and W and enjoyed the early sun, the river and the breeze. How lucky were we to end up here!

All I needed was a cuppa – but the inn door was not yet open

I arrived home and produced brekkie and then didn’t do much for ages.
Eleanor told me Kallie met up with something unpleasant this morning which caused her to be quite poorly and led to an emergency trip to the vet. Very worrying, but the last report indicated she seems to be recovering.

Late in the afternoon, I wended my somewhat unwilling way into Goring. I needed to collect a letter from the surgery. This turned out to be T’s asthma plan (from March) ! But, of much greater interest was the treasure trove that is next door- Goring Hardware shop.

As is the way with this shop, I just went in for WD40 ( for the garden tap) and I came out with a new kitchen food bin, weed killer, secateurs and I just about resisted the knitting wool and a special sauce pot.

The new food bin … now those of you who know me, will, in turn, know of the battle I have with T over rubbish, amongst many other things. He has a problem with putting the lid on our food bin. He takes the lid off every day, all day, leaving its contents exposed, offering themselves as a banquet to flies. Until I replace it.
Well, predictably, there was an army of maggots greeting me this evening. I felt very tempted to tip them over T but just showed them to him before I drowned them. We now have a bin with an attached lid that just drops down. I will give it a couple of days.

Amongst other things… my cables have been wound up again; the fridge has been reorganised once more.
My mushrooms are withered and dehydrated because they have been unwrapped and left loose in the vegetable shelf. Jars are stacked one on top of the other like skyscrapers. Cheese is lying unwrapped, slowly going hard. I had 4 boxes of grapes before I went to bed… There are two plates of left overs – he never eats them but always says he will have them for brekkie. Just lovely.

Update: Friday am… A much cooler night and the forecast indicates a cooler start to the day. H may get her walk after I’ve dropped T off. May need to shop to avoid doing so over the next few days of great heat.

Thought for the Day
