Evie has finished gym today. Forever. After a commitment of 4 days per week for the last 8/9 years. It finished with a fund raising muddy run for a friend with cancer.

I slept very nicely on my lesser sloping bed I had no wish to get up, but there came a point in time when I could delay things no longer. I had something of a headache for some reason or other.
The sky was no longer blue. It was not unusually warm. There was no need to walk H early.
Yesterday I had been out walkies and returned home before I even woke up today.
Otherwise, the usual routines and breakfast were adhered to.
Today became a sort of muddle. A séries of various events and non events. It started with a late morning visit from Ali and Fleur with a bunch of lovely flowers. They brought in a door step parcel which contained special cheeses for T from Pen. It is father’s day tomorrow.

Dave arrived as well. Some reconnoitering was taking place for George’s teen event later in the day. A late birthday with his mates sort of event.
Moulsford and its Rec featured heavily – paddle boarding (our garden is supremely handy for this) , followed by football on the Rec. Delete football – it became nerf gun battles. Followed by pizzas which I had to take to the pavilion, because Dominos didn’t recognise the Rec postcode. Why Moulsford? Because Dominos don’t deliver as far as Streatley.
So the Rec was taken over by about 9 x 13 year old somethings of the male variety, playing games with plastic guns and foam bullets. Games which took them scrambling through the woody thickets, all over the whole rec, and over the playground equipment. And which were probably noisy.
At some point in the afternoon, T and I took Minnie and H for a wet walk at Little Wittenham. Unusually, no one else was very apparent. The grasses were long and drippy and the sky was in weepy mood. The temperature was around 15C which was around half as hot as Friday. Or 50% of Friday’s heat.

I had hoped to take Lena and Timur to Beale Park but we ran out of time.
The day felt slightly manic. In between paddle boards, pizzas and medium sized boys coming and going, I made a briam. We also inherited some left over pizza.
And we went to Savages ( a garden centre/ local veg / goodies shop) , who did not sell mint, not even in a pot. And their cafe was closed. And the purpose of our visit was to buy mint or a pot of mint and to enjoy a cuppa! :-// We were failed on all counts.
The evening was dismal and damp. Casualty was a long, depressing and topical episode.
As I mentioned earlier, Evie has finally given up her gymnastics. Rather sad. But things had not been well managed for her over the last couple of years, though she had remained committed through all the training difficulties that Covid brought.

Thought for the day
