Dreadful Night

Don’t ask me why the night was so bad, but bad it certainly was. I just could not get to sleep for some reason or other. I spent a chunk of the night catching up on ’The Split.’ As a result, the day has seemed a bit ‘foggy.’ Or my brain has.

I was off out quite early to take H for a walk at Greenham. It was a sunnyish day but not as warm as recently. We had to be careful where we walked due to various large areas being out of bounds due to ground nesting birds. And cows lurked. The gorse was aflame – bright and gawdy; dogs were enjoying their personal swimming pond and people were sparse.

I enjoyed chats with a few people , including a couple who shared my views on the state of Newbury and the dung heap that is our Prime-minister.

Following our walk, I popped into the fabric shop, which did not really have what I wanted, nor the colours I wanted. But I will improvise and I have plans. A certain amount of creative thinking will be required. Manufacture will commence tomorrow. The sewing machine treadle had been cunningly secreted away by me. I haven’t used the sewing machine since we moved house. Fingers crossed that it works.

Ukranian colours – loosely speaking

I am considering appliqué floor bean bags, cushion covers, bunting, flags, appliqué pillow cases.

I found the best thing ever online :

This is very exciting – pre-filled bean bag stockinette

The last floor bean bags I made – filling the stockinette left me wading knee deep in polystyrene beads, giving the Miele a nervous breakdown and filling its bags endlessly with escapee beads. And we kept finding beads over the next six years. Filling the stockinette meant trying to control a wobbly supply bag from above my knees, whilst trying to fill another sack. Always a hopeless task in my case. And I did it 6 times!

I prepped a late lunch/ early supper.

I stopped off at the Illis on the way home to gather up Minnie and to pick up Dave ( now Covid free) so he could collect their car. This had been parked up on our drive since their weekend visit. They are off to London for a long day out tomorrow. So Minnie is having a sleep over. T was actually up and showered when I arrived home.

Oscar and Ruben called by to pressure wash the new patio before sealing it later in the week. We must keep off it. And not put pots and furniture on it. That will be fun! T is bound to try to get busy reorganising everything.

The Roberts are in Kefallonia for a few days. I enquired if they waved at Charlie as he bobbed along the Adriatic some way below their plane. We are in the UK for what feels like evermore. Charlie must be in the middle of Europe somewhere by now.

Evie – Greek salad for brunch – they arrived early!

Refugee news is a bit sparse. I hope they get/ got to Lviv.

Today

Elena told Ali she is in a constant state of anxiety. I can understand why.

I fell asleep again, on the sofa, probably something to do with my wakeful night.

The female vice choir has been at it again with various musical renderings. Probably just practice for a concert to come.

Thought for the Day

Or even 6
