In a different way

Yes … busy but in a different way. And I started quite early.

Thank goodness I enjoyed another good night’s sleep, after the two really bad ones. But then after my taxiing, I was in bed rather later than usual. Well after midders.

The hockey party goers from Saturday. All grown up

I first awoke around the usual 5.30 ish. But I drifted off again for an hour or so. The day ahead was looking complicated, so I decided to get my swim out of the way, early, which would create more morning time. However, I found the car iced up, so that had to be coaxed into warming up.

I arrived at the Lido just after 07.00. I could not believe the amount of traffic around at that time on a Sunday morning. Why weren’t these people at home and in bed?

The pool was quite busy at the start and very choppy again. A bit like swimming the Atlantic really. I don’t understand what is causing the choppiness. The wretched blue rope was positioned in my way again; I’m not sure what it’s purpose is. Something to do with the great works I presume.

The journey back from the Lido involved more time wasted at the Great Caversham Traffic Light Debacle. Must be an idiot responsible for traffic management. Or non-management.

I fed T when I arrived home. Pen was supposed to be over from the Illis at around 9.30. But 10.00 passed and then 11.00 and 12.00pm almost sneaked by. Then the whole family appeared to pick up their cars that they had gifted us yesterday.

Pen and I gave H a quick route march round Castle Meadows. I deliberately avoided Bunny Banks in Moaty Meadows. I had not charged up the collars. We managed to distract H from disappearing into the danger zone. But it was a sunny and bright morning.

Time for a cuppa and then back to Reading and off to the Lido for lunch . This time the Caversham hold up on the way TO the Lido was serious. But we noted it was even worse in the opposite direction.

The Lido restaurant was busy and disappointing. We had been warned by email that kitchen staffing issues meant the a la carte menu was unavailable . We were quite happy to have tapas. Then I realised how depleted that menu was. No olives, no patatas bravas, no sensible fish offering. And their fish is usually amazing. And you get a huge bowl of a variety of olives. How can you not have tapas basics?

Luckily lots of veg dishes and some meat ones were on offer. (T and I never have the meat ones.) Also, only one desert choice apart from their ice cream offerings. Their ice cream is all home made and amazing. eg Bay and pepper corn.

Our daughters and T and I salvaged what was available and enjoyed the meal. What was available was very good.
The girls couldn’t swim on this visit which is why I swam earlier in the day. Ali still not right after Covid and Pen has also been out of sorts after her dose of the same.

Ali suggested ways of avoiding the traffic queues on the return journey. But they did not really work due to surrounding congestion.

We eventually arrived home, saying farewell to Pen. She returned home to pick up the pieces after Evie’s teenage party on Saturday night. Dave had agreed to supervise.
He has been asked to DJ at Rupert’s wedding. Can’t see how that will work as he will need decks / vinyl etc. In his youth, he earned regular good weekend money DJing in Bristle.

I snoozed off my lunch. I don’t know what meddling T has done. Doubtless I will find out later.
Nothing much happened in the evening. I was short of energy and full of tapas. It’s been a busy but lovely weekend.

T needs a trim but I quite like my new look.

Thought for the Day
