I found it tricky to get to sleep last night so watched ‘Death on the Blackpool Express’ which is an undemanding spoof on the Orient Express murder of Agatha Christie fame. Quite enjoyable and starring a few well known faces. It is one of a trilogy in similar vein. Others being Death on the Tyne and Dial M for Middlesborough. Starring Johnny Vegas.
Morning dawned dull and miserable so no rush to do anything. I eventually walked H at Cholsey where some of the meadows have been shorn of their summer shagginess. It was raining, but kindly stopped. Before we got back to the car. And then started again with a vengeance.

Dark skies above. Heidi emerges from the reeds after firm persuasion.
We then went to watch Fleur play hockey where the teams were making slight squelching sounds on the Astro Turf. More continuous sunlight soon helped with that. F’s team won and deserved to.
G was playing away for his new club, Oxford Hawks, against Winchester where they lost but he played well. Since he’s a goal keeper, he is always more involved in matches where his team are losing. But I am told he had a good game.
And the rest of the afternoon settled into more reliable weather routine. I was able to almost dry the protective covers for the garden furniture which has now recovered from the storm and another overnight soaking. Time to put most of it away for the winter. Perhaps.
I may have relaxed for a short time before taking my taxi to the Illis for a trip to Henley’s Giggling Squid restaurant. I didn’t take too much exception to bring brushed aside by a rather rude Norwegian couple who turned out to be the advanced pair of a very large party. Most of whom adopted the same lack of manners as the leading pair. One of the group was excessively shouty and loud, which meant they all were.
However, the restaurant, its ambience (minus Norwegian influence) and its food were absolutely amazing. Top marks to Five Star John for looking after us so well.
We recent birthday girls were awarded a rich chocolate pudding and tasty ice cream, thanks to our 5* member of staff.
David had taxied us here, driving my car and I taxied us home again. I did have to point out to Dave that using T’s blue badge at the parking spot, was a tad naughty and had the potential to cause us both trouble. But then we were not in a disabled parking spot as far as I could see.
I got us all back safely. There is only really room for two and a half people in the back of my car. So G became the half.
It was a lovely evening and I’ve had some similarly lovely family times this week so thanks to all.
Frankie is being returned to her new uni accommodation this weekend. Though she may leave her possessions and return for a few final days at home. Is a rather fine shared house which is better than the high rise room in a flat for ten minutes hat she had last year.
I am told that I got it wrong yesterday when I described F’s scientific birthday present. It was a molecular biological ( not chemical) construction kit for glucose. Or glucose is what she had constructed.
She has become very keen to get driving, after her two parental visits to some quiet commercial car park or other.
Thought for the Day
