Holiday

I had a really good sleep in the chair and awoke at some really silly time and so I went to bed and caught up with the Traitors.

It was another chilly and grey morning but I had jobs to do: a bed to change; the spare bed to make up with clean bedding which had been sitting on it for a week; laundry to get done and dried; dish washer to fill; rubbish to dispose of; packing to deal with including for H. Etc etc.
The journey to Eype was scheduled to take around 2 1/2 hours which was probably accurate. I didn’t need to stop on the way and traffic was relatively light. Honiton is not far away – 30 miles or less I think.

Silly me thinking I would be sticking my chair on a beach enjoying a promised wintry sun, wrapped in my cosy dry robe. The grey persisted all day and when I finally arrived at Eype it was very chilly. The way down to the beach is quite precipitous from where I was looking but I don’t think I was in the right place. Not a place to want to carry a chair.

So I wandered to West Bay, about five minutes away by car, which is somewhere we both liked. It is where they filmed Broadchurch. I was feeling a bit peckish- I just fancied a snack, but our favourite eating place, The Bridport Arms was firmly shuttered up, so I used its car park and slithered my way up and down very fine shingle giving H a run around the beach.
In fact , regretfully, I watched her head down a long, steep, but soft bank towards the waves. I was hoping I did not have to pursue her to the water’s edge because it seemed to be a long way down. But she did a poo ( which I ignored) and dutifully returned to me with little encouragement required.
It was a very raw day.

I had worked out where the hotel was – along a very narrow wiggly track which will be perilous in icy conditions – so pray it does not rain. I think I will rely on my feet tomorrow until the day has warmed up. Assuming it will.

My room is comfortable and warm. Fan heaters are supplied to supplement radiators if they are off. The bathroom is a good size – T would have liked it because he did like lots of space. Sometimes I forget he is not here any more and I catch myself thinking that he would appreciate something or other. I hope he is watching.

The bedroom is a small double – good for one person. But the wifi and phone signal come and go, but we were warned this was the case.
There is plenty of tea and coffee and some Christmas cake to nibble.
I’m having an early supper so will be in BED and asleep at a sensible time. I hope.

I suspect that, when it’s not miserable and murky, there are great views. Bad timing in my part.

West Bay was quiet- most people who were out and about were accompanied by their dogs. And plenty of warm clothing.

I might try Charmouth or Lyme Regis tomorrow. But I will investigate the beach here first.
It is going to be sunny on Monday. Apparently.
The bar area is very comfortable – that is where H and I spent a chunk of the evening. There is a modern dining area there- I’m not sure if it was the bar or the dining room, which looks out onto an illuminated, empty massive terrace. It was dark so I will look forward to investigating it in daylight.

I noticed, via my magic door camera, that we had a burglar at home, called Dave.

Burglars like this one are always welcome because he has shifted our Christmas decorations to the loft.
