A very long day

I slept quite well, but was sort of niggled by stuff.

I forgot to stop my flex workout. This is becoming a habit. A bad one. I briefly drifted off to sleep again and then got myself up and off to Waitrose. H still seemed knocked out by her escapades of yesterday, not even raising her head to say good morning.

I picked up bread and fruit and about 4 bags of green beans, some tomatoes and peppers for stuffing. Guess what National food I shall be making next week! I had invited Val for supper before our theatre trip so made a guacamole to add to the other items I had prepped by picking them up off the shelves of the shop.

I felt pretty tired and washed out… not really looking forward to the plans we had for the day. And the day had only just begun.

I managed to get some clothes into the washing machine and on and off the line.

It was a sunny and very warm day – around 24C. Those clothes could enjoy that.

The plants were also going to require watering, and will do – every day I think. My new cunning watering plan is working well on the plants at the front of the house.

I enjoyed a little sit down, surrounded by the prettyiness of the flowers. T does his best to unpretty them, but it is lovely to have an attractive garden for once. Or a semblance of one. I’m getting to know all my plants on a personal level now. We have quite intimate conversations. It is all quite soothing. But they are not all very obedient. There is sometimes rebellion in the ranks.

Walking H was next on the list. I took her down to the river by Cholsey lay-by. Due to the absence of cars, I thought it would be quiet by the water. I was right in that there were not many walkers, but there were various groups seated by the river, paddling and enjoying the cool it provided, or eating picnics. Picnics with gin in one case.

The walk was tricksy because the grass had grown long, and was very tussocky so it was uneven and it was difficult to read the underlying terrain. A hiking pole might be handy next time I think.

H found the whole process hot and enjoyed a paddle and then hid in the shade under my bench.

Crops and meadows

The cooler

On the return leg, she decided to investigate the field of fast growing wheat.
And she quickly became invisible. It was only the quivering of the growing crop that revealed her location.

I returned home all overheated and sticky and in need of a shower. But Val was early – by about 30 minutes. So I cracked on with feeding us all. One of the great unshowered. Stinky too I expect.

The Comedy of Errors was great fun with wonderful acting. Several hats and a shawl made up for the shortfall in the number of actors. Goodness knows how they remembered where to leave the hats or who they were supposed to be. The performance was preceded by some equally wonderful singing of folk songs and sea shanties, duetted or not by a male and a female actor. The girl has the most wonderful voice. The bloke was not bad either.
Sunday evening is not my top choice of time for an outing, but it was a pleasant interlude in the general tedium that life brings.

I went straight to bed once we arrived home. The fatigue and aches that dominated the early part of the day had continued.

Thoughts for the Day
