Sounds

… of the day

Great night’s sleep waking up at some silly late hour around 06.00. It was still very dark, so I found no particular inclination to arise. When daylight won its little battle over the dark, it was only a partial victory because a thick grey cloud blanketed everything to ground level.
I carried out a few of the usual early tasks, including another LFT , which was a bit wonky but still positive. I was disappointed.

Ali has gone to have a PCR test, as she is poorly but negative.

I have booked tickets for Saturday evening, at Cholsey Great Hall for some musical entertainment. Eleanor’s son is involved – he is an actor/musician. I discovered this event completely by accident, on a jovial media post . Or even a local social media trailer. I liked the music, and something in the photo caught my eye. A familiar face from family photos and a short film I have seen. Cholsey is a 5 minute drive, both of us should be Covid free. I’m allowed out on Thursday, regardless of what tests might say. T – Saturday.

I’ve repeated LFT on both of us this evening. We are both still positive. It is all very tiresome.

Penny’s anniversary gift of a Cook voucher for frozen meals has been very timely. The quality has been fantastic, good value too – we have one meal left. I may have to order more – mushroom risotto this evening. Yum.

T has moved the plant pots again so I moved them all back. On a positivé note, the weight lifting was good for me. The chair cushions have visited the floor again, This childish act, in response to extension cable interference, gives me silly satisfaction.

Can‘t be seen from
anywhere. Too squashed, no sunlight, no space to to spread

H and I wandered round Castle Meadows – I was shod in crocs and encountered no mud. No ankle support either! Even the craters in the lane are empty of water.
By the time we were out and about, the sun was shining and the birds were enjoying making music, the equivalent of Glastonbury. The geese were headlining. There was nothing subtle about it.

The red sunflower seeds I planted last week have taken me by surprise. They had been in a plastic cocoon. I hope they recover from their legginess. The coriander plants are still contemplating germination. Or maybe they are not.

Thoughts for the Day

Castle Meadows today..,

Sirens – persistent, urgently searching their emergency;

Birdsong – repetitive and insistent, melodious from the small tweeters in the surrounding trees, braying – donkey like- from the geese, mewing from on high – red kites;

Puttputts -the gentle purr of a small white floating vessel; the throatier growl of a low flying metal box; the higher pitched hum of a lofty giant dinosaur, a relic of previous times devouring its fossil legacy as it traverses the blue of the skies; the beep beep of a vehicle, grounded, yet reversing.

Elsewhere
But elsewhere the sounds will not be reminders of peace and tranquility. Muffled thuds, earth shattering booms; air sizzling as it is burnt up by flying terror, the squeal and grind of torn metal and the smack and crack of dying buildings as they tumble earthwards; the scrape of shovels searching below the rubble, And above it all – the anguished cries of the life in that place. The contorted silence of death.
